In Carmarthenshire we are lucky to have a plethora of local outlets to delight the taste buds. We have put together a few of our favourites so you can visit them during your stay at Glansevin.
In Llandovery, just 7 miles from Glansevin, is home to the The Old Printing Office and Cafe. Minutes walk away from the main car park and tucked away along a side street, it is a real delight. The Old Printing Office is a gift shop with a café to the rear. The building was once one of the first printing presses in Wales. The gift shop is quirky and you can definitely pick up something a little different in here, but the main gem is the café, in a glass covered courtyard with outdoor al fresco seating. The menu is delicious and the coffee is brilliant.
In the opposite direction along the Towy Valley, in a tiny back street, you will find The Ginhaus, a niche deli with a coffee shop and gin bar. Located on Market Street, The Ginhaus nestles between some fabulous gift and clothing shops, and not forgetting Peppercorn Cookware Shop whilst we are on the theme of food! Try flat white with a homebaked muffin or one of their signature cherry frangipane mini tartlets. Or ask the staff to recommend their range or wine and gin to accompany the menu. Prosecco by the glass is a recent welcome addition too.
If you have a little more time, slightly further afield (yet only a thirty minute drive from Glansevin) is Wright’s Food Emporium This delightful deli café is situated within a large listed building originally a Drovers Inn. Finding Wright’s isn’t hard to find in the pretty village of Llanarthne on the B4300 with plenty of parking. The coffee is excellent and the cakes will leave you spoilt for choice. The menu choices are freshly cooked and Wright’s have local ales and beer on draught to freshen your palette along with prosecco on tap. Make time to browse the deli shop too.
These are just a few ideas from us here at Glansevin. We are very lucky to have all these places on our doorstep, so do go an
d explore during them all your stay at Glansevin. Enjoy!
Glansevin sleeps up to 56 but your event or wedding may well have a number of guests whom you cannot be accommodated entirely at Glansevin.
We are fortunate here to have a range of boutique hotels and B&B’s in the local vicinity. Being located almost exactly halfway between two bustling market towns, Llandeilo and Llandovery, we can suggest several hotels in these locations.
Firstly, in Llandeilo The Cawdor Hotel lies central to this historic little town set upon a hill. With its grandeur front palisades onto Rhosmaen Street, The Cawdor offers luxury rooms and fine dining, within an affordable price range. The grade II listed building has modern twists whilst keeping its historical appeal. Often with offers on the rooms available online, it is a great suggestion for your surplus invited guests.
Situated on the edge of Llandeilo, with stunning views over the Carmarthenshire countryside and overlooking the River Towy valley, The Plough is ideally located just on the outskirts of Llandeilo in the tiny village of Rhosmaen. Easy to find alongside the A40 this four star hotel has had recent upgrades and has a contemporary feel. The spacious rooms have recently won the tourism awards for Carmarthenshire in 2015/16.
Along the valley Northward from Llandeilo lies another local historic town, Llandovery. In the very centre of the town, we can recommend The Castle Hotel. From its roots as a coaching inn this hotel has grown and modernised but retains inglenook fires and cosy sofas where you can relax and sample their local range of ales and restaurant menu. Four poster beds mix with modern en suites ensuring the rooms will be more than suitable for your overflow guests from Glansevin.
Lastly, and very much on our doorstep, we have The Goose and Cuckoo, offering quality B&B accommodation with breakfast included. Lying centrally in our local village of Llangadog, just about a mile away, this country pub has a lovely menu, specialising in Sunday Lunches. The rooms are en suite and offer an affordable and comfortable stay.
When deciding on your bedroom arrangements, keep in mind that Glansevin can accommodate up to 40 in the Mansion itself. In the Annexe (on the same property and a stone’s throw away from the Mansion), we can accommodate a further 16 bedrooms in 8 en suite bedrooms.
Carmarthenshire is a blissful place to stay and explore, and these local establishments certainly sum up hospitality to be proud of.
